Originally a striking 1876 neo-gothic mansion, the property gained a reputation for a heavy, eerie atmosphere long before it was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1969. Throughout the 1970s, its hollowed-out ruins became a legendary local "haunted house," frequently linked to occult rituals, mysterious flickering lights, and rhythmic chanting. Adding to its mystique, the subterranean Cholmondley Brook runs directly beneath the site—a feature local lore claims acts as a natural conduit for supernatural energy.
