THE STORY

Reported Haunting

This waterfront Victorian became famous through the 1991 Stambovsky v. Ackley case, in which a New York court declared the house legally haunted for purposes of a real-estate dispute. Former owner Helen Ackley described several friendly spirits, unexplained gifts, and a presence that reportedly shook her daughter's bed each morning.
