THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The historic Tarlton House in Hillsboro dates to 1895 and later operated as a bed-and-breakfast. Its long history has inspired reports of unexplained occurrences and ghostly activity, with some visitors believing that former residents may still make their presence known.

At this bed-and-breakfast inn, as the name implies built in 1895, builder Mr. Tarlton himself is said to wander in spirit. Rumor has it that he hanged himself on floor 3 after his second wife died. Witnesses have heard his footsteps and felt cool gusts of wind on their faces. There are journals in each room where guests can write about anything strange that happened during their stay.
