THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Kakaʻako Pumping Station (often referred to as the 1900 Building) is a historic Industrial Romanesque style landmark in Honolulu constructed from local Hawaiian bluestone. Completed in 1900 to house the city’s first professional sewer system, it played a vital role in combating the historic 1899–1900 bubonic plague outbreaks. Today, the architectural relic stands abandoned alongside Ala Moana Boulevard, surrounded by local urban legend and frequent ghost sightings attributed to the dark era of its construction.
There is a story attached to the building that centers around a girl named Amelia. She lived and died at the hotel, and some say she still walks the hallways in search of her lost love. Others sense the presence of a seafaring captain.
