The historic Old Sheriff's House and Lake County Jail has become a popular paranormal-investigation site, with reports of voices, shadows, footsteps and other unexplained activity inside the former jail. (Submission by Brian Greer)
Built in the nineteenth century, the Old Sheriff's House and adjoining Lake County Jail are among Crown Point's best-known historic landmarks. The jail is closely associated with John Dillinger, who escaped from the facility in 1934. Paranormal investigators and visitors have reported disembodied voices, unexplained shadows, footsteps and other unusual activity throughout the jail and residence.
