THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Eastern State Penitentiary operated from 1829 until 1971 and revolutionized prison design with its radial layout and strict system of solitary confinement. Visitors have reported shadowy figures, disembodied voices, echoing footsteps, cell doors slamming, and overwhelming feelings of being watched throughout the abandoned prison. Its harsh history and deteriorating cellblocks have made it one of America's most famous haunted landmarks.
Ghost Atlas has a published record for this location, but a full narrative has not yet been added.
