THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Old Chester County Jail is considered one of South Carolina’s most haunted locations, with reports of faces in upper windows, footsteps, voices, moved objects, and spirits tied to former inmates.
Built in 1914, the Old Chester County Jail housed prisoners until 1973 before becoming part of the Chester County Historical Society museum. Reports include unexplained footsteps, objects moving, voices behind locked steel doors, and a face appearing in a top-floor window where no floor exists. One well-known spirit is called the Trustee, believed to be a former inmate who lived in the jail basement for decades.
