Eloise developed from a nineteenth-century Wayne County poorhouse into an enormous medical and psychiatric complex that once contained dozens of buildings. Most of the complex was later demolished, but the surviving Kay Beard building remains. Visitors and paranormal investigators report apparitions, voices, screams, footsteps and shadow figures. The property now hosts organized public and private paranormal investigations in addition to historical tours and seasonal attractions.
