THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Baker Mansion is associated with the long-running legend of Anna Baker, whose apparition and unworn wedding dress are said to remain connected to the historic home. Visitors have also reported phantom sounds, unexplained movement and other apparitions. (Submission by John Moriarty)
Built for ironmaster Elias Baker in the mid-nineteenth century, Baker Mansion is now operated as a historic museum by the Blair County Historical Society. Its best-known ghost tradition centers on Elias' daughter Anna Baker, who never married after her father reportedly opposed her engagement. Visitors and staff have reported seeing a woman in white, hearing unexplained sounds and witnessing movement associated with the historic wedding dress display. Other reports involve Anna's brother David Woods Baker, who died in a steamboat boiler explosion.
