THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Local lore at Hobcaw Barony includes reports of apparitions, unexplained voices and phantom sounds across its historic plantation sites and residences.
Hobcaw Barony is a 16,000-acre historic and ecological reserve near Georgetown containing former plantation sites, cemeteries, slave villages and historic residences. Local paranormal traditions include reports of apparitions, phantom sounds, unexplained voices and other unusual activity associated with various parts of the property. Because specific stories vary between retellings, these accounts are best treated as local legend rather than verified supernatural events. The reserve is privately owned, and public access beyond the Discovery Center is only through scheduled guided tours and programs.
