THE STORY
Reported Haunting
North Little Rock High School's historic Ole Main building is associated with a longstanding campus ghost story. According to local legend, a popular student-athlete was killed in a car crash during the 1950s, and his funeral was held in the school auditorium because so many students wished to attend. Over the years, students and staff have reported seeing the apparition of a teenage boy, often described as wearing a letterman jacket, in the hallways, auditorium, theater areas, and tower above the campus. Another tradition describes a mysterious glow appearing near the top of the tower during football games, which some believe is the former student continuing to support his team. The identity of the student and details of the alleged fatal crash have not been independently confirmed. (Submission by Crystal Lee)
North Little Rock High School occupies the historic Ole Main campus on West 22nd Street in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The original Art Deco high school building was constructed beginning in 1928 and completed around 1930. The campus has been associated with its "Ghost of Ole Main" legend for decades, and North Little Rock High School students produced a video feature about the haunting in 2003.
