THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Erie Canal boatyard is associated with canal-era tragedies, superstitions and reported unexplained activity and has hosted ghost tours and paranormal investigations.
Chittenango Landing preserves an Erie Canal boatyard and three-bay dry dock complex that operated from the mid-nineteenth century into the early twentieth century. Canal workers were famously superstitious, and the museum incorporates both canal folklore and reported paranormal experiences into its programming. Stories associated with the site include a fatal boiler explosion, the death of a young boy, unexplained sounds, and other unusual activity. Guided ghost tours and paranormal investigations have been offered at the historic boatyard.
