THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Established in 1904 as the State Epileptic Colony, the institution later became Abilene State Hospital and Abilene State School before taking its present name, Abilene State Supported Living Center. Paranormal stories have been reported by people who worked on the campus. One former employee described a door near a resident's room repeatedly swinging violently open despite an empty hallway and no apparent draft. The same witness reported seeing a smoky white form float from a hallway and travel along the ceiling before disappearing. The employee also recalled coworkers describing the unexplained sound of children laughing and playing near an old playground area. The property remains an active state-supported living center, and the haunting claims are presented as witness reports rather than verified paranormal events.
Ghost Atlas has a published record for this location, but a full narrative has not yet been added.
