THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Agnews Insane Asylum Site (now the Agnews Developmental Center) in Santa Clara, California, is one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most legendary paranormal hot spots. The site's intense ghost lore is deeply rooted in the catastrophic 1906 San Francisco earthquake, which caused the asylum's multi-story masonry buildings to collapse, killing over 100 patients and staff members who were subsequently buried in mass graves on-site.Local paranormal reports and urban legends tied to the historic grounds include:The Woman in the Yellow/White Dress: A prominent phantom who reportedly approaches people begging for help to find her children, only to vanish into thin air the moment someone tries to assist her.Poltergeist and Sensory Disruption: Security guards, tech campus workers, and urban explorers frequently document sudden electronic failures, lights cycling on and off independently, doors slamming, and rooms abruptly filling with a thick smell of phantom smoke or foul odors.Residual Hauntings: Disembodied screams, weeping, and phantom laughter regularly echo across the remaining historic campus fields and near the preserved clock tower.
In the Great Earthquake of 1906, over 100 patients were killed and buried on this site. The hospital itself was said to be a place full of negative residual energy from shock treatment leaving the patients catatonic. Guests have been shoved and report the feeling of being watched. Objects have also manipulated themselves to move around.
