THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Avera-Clarke House is said to be haunted by former residents who never truly left the property. Guests have reported hearing unexplained footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own, and voices coming from empty rooms. Staff have also described shadowy figures and an eerie feeling throughout parts of the bed and breakfast.
This house, now operating as a bed and breakfast, was built in 1890 by Thomas Clarke, a lawyer, judge and civil war veteran. It is said that his ghost is often seen roaming the house – he appears particularly often to guests staying in the Queen Anne Room.
