Reported Haunting
The Avery House Museum is rumored to be haunted by members of the Avery family who once lived there. Visitors have reported hearing footsteps on the staircase, seeing shadowy apparitions, and witnessing objects move without explanation. Paranormal investigators have also recorded unusual sounds believed to be electronic voice phenomena.
The beautiful sandstone Avery House, built in 1879 for Franklin and Sara Avery and their three children, is now used as a history museum. The museum is thought to be haunted by Avery family members. Some reports say an unhappy child’s spirit haunts the middle bedroom upstairs and other spirits may reside in the pantry and the parlor.
