THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Ghost lore surrounding the Granger House includes reports of children laughing, footsteps, music and other unexplained sounds. A well-known story about a white figure at an upstairs window has been disputed by a former museum director. (Submission by Stacy Elliott Jochims)
The Granger House is a historic nineteenth-century home in Marion, Iowa, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Local ghost stories describe children laughing, footsteps, music, whistles, unexplained animal sounds and occasional apparitions. One long-running story describes a white figure seen near an upstairs window, although a former museum director publicly disputed that particular sighting and attributed it to a mannequin illuminated by a security light.
