Reported Haunting
The Barkley House has long been associated with reports of ghostly activity connected to its nineteenth-century history. Guests and investigators have reported apparitions, unexplained footsteps, and doors opening without anyone nearby. Other experiences include mysterious voices and cold spots believed to be caused by lingering spirits.
This 1820’s style house was built and owned by an immigrant, and is partially constructed from the remnants of a fort. Used as both a private residence and a boarding house during the twentieth century, former residents reported many instances of ghostly sightings and paranormal activity. On the expansive grounds of the property, visitors claim to have seen the apparition of a slave girl, while others have supposedly encountered a ghostly garden party complete with haunting music. Inside the actual house, past residents have seen a spectral lady in a calico dress and a man in a straw hat.
