THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The reconstructed Spanish Military Hospital is associated with disembodied praying, sobbing and screaming, moving beds, darting shadows, full-bodied apparitions, unexplained scratches and bruises, phantom marching, and unseen hands that reportedly grab visitors.
The site is associated with the former Spanish military hospital that operated during St. Augustine's colonial period. The surviving museum building is a reconstruction interpreting the hospital as it appeared during the Second Spanish Period. Paranormal reports include voices praying, sobbing and moaning in the Mourning Room; a freezing, forceful hand grabbing visitors' clothing in the Surgeon's Office; hospital beds moving and shaking on their own; visitors being scratched or struck in the ward; and shadow figures moving through the apothecary. Other accounts describe full apparitions, recorded voices, screams of 'help,' Spanish-language voices, unexplained bruises, phantom soldiers marching through the halls, and glowing orbs that reportedly follow visitors outside.
