THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The site is the location of the deadliest Native American massacre in Western history, where U.S. Army soldiers slaughtered between 250 and 400 Northwestern Shoshone men, women, and children on January 29, 1863.Because of the massive scale of human tragedy that occurred in the freezing winter temperatures, regional paranormal databases and local lore feature intense residual haunting claims:Auditory Manifestations: Visitors and local trackers report that during the winter months, the sound of disembodied infants crying and phantom weeping can be heard echoing through the river ravine.Visual Anomaly: Local legend claims that unexplained, phantom footprints can occasionally be seen forming in freshly fallen snow when no living person is around.

At the site, U.S. Cavalry soldiers brutally killed Shoshone men, women, and children as they were starving to death. It is said that now, in wintertime, the sound of crying babies can be heard and footprints can been seen in the snow.
