THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Built in 1910 near Glacier National Park, the historic Belton Chalet has long been associated with stories of paranormal activity. Guests and employees have reported unexplained footsteps, apparitions, and other mysterious occurrences suggesting that former occupants may still linger within the landmark.

Belton Chalet was built in 1910 and is now a National Historic Landmark, rumored to be haunted. Folks say the apparition of a man in a derby hat carrying a satchel has been spotted at the railroad station and at the original chalet, which is now a restaurant. Disembodied sobbing has been heard in rooms 30 and 37, and voices call guests’ names, slam doors and turn on water faucets in vacant rooms. In 1998 when the lodge was closed for renovations, an antique Chinese marble materialized from nowhere and was tossed down the stairs. Fall seems to be the most popular time for ghosts to make themselves known here.
