THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Black Butte Saloon in Weed, California—built in 1917 and famously used as a shootout movie set for John Wayne—carried a heavy reputation for paranormal activity before it was tragically destroyed by arson in September 2025. When the building was standing, visitors and employees regularly reported seeing shadowy, translucent entities drifting across the second-floor hotel rooms, which historically operated as a brothel. The property was also plagued by eerie poltergeist activity, sudden localized drops in temperature, and the unsettling sensation of invisible eyes tracking guests from the bar's darkest corners.
The Black Butte Saloon dates back to 1917, when it was founded by bordello madam Georgia Clark. The place is now rumoured to be haunted by a man who died after being pushed down the staircase, along with a prostitute who was beaten to death in a closet in Room 6 and a ghostly man with a beard whose face materialised in a pool of spilt hair dye in Room 15.
