THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Boggart Hole Clough is linked to an old Lancashire tradition that a boggart, a troublesome and sometimes shape-shifting supernatural being, inhabited the wooded clough.
The wooded ravines of Boggart Hole Clough carry one of Manchester's clearest place-name connections to traditional supernatural folklore. Local tradition associates the area with a boggart, a creature from northern English folklore variously described as a troublesome household or landscape spirit capable of frightening travelers, playing tricks or appearing in different forms. The story is folklore rather than a conventional modern haunting report, but the association between the boggart and this specific historic woodland is longstanding enough to warrant a Ghost Atlas entry. The park is publicly accessible during its posted opening hours.
