THE STORY

Reported Haunting

In November 1974, the small Goodin family home at 966 Lindley Street became the center of one of America's most famous alleged poltergeist cases. Police officers, firefighters, clergy, reporters, neighbors, and paranormal investigators reported witnessing furniture move, objects fly from walls, unexplained banging, and other bizarre phenomena. One police officer formally reported seeing the family's refrigerator rise several inches from the floor and move toward him. The disturbances centered largely around the Goodins' 10-year-old adopted daughter, Marcia. Police later announced that Marcia had admitted faking some incidents after officers caught her manipulating objects, but several witnesses maintained that they had personally observed events she could not readily have caused. The controversial case attracted enormous crowds, national media attention, and investigators including Ed and Lorraine Warren, and remains one of Connecticut's most debated paranormal cases.
