Visitors have reported hearing phantom footsteps, disembodied voices, and unexplained knocks echoing through the ships. Shadow figures have also been seen moving through passageways after visiting hours.
Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park includes the ship USS The Sullivans, named after five brothers, Albert, Francis, George, Joseph and Madison, who were lost during the battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. The USS The Sullivans is believed to be haunted by George Sullivan.
