The Burlington County Prison operated from 1811 until the mid-twentieth century and once housed some of New Jersey's most notorious criminals. Visitors have reported shadow figures, unexplained footsteps, disembodied voices, and slamming cell doors throughout the historic jail. Its long history of incarceration has made it one of the state's best-known haunted prisons.
