THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Burrville Cider Mill openly acknowledges its paranormal reputation, with reports of apparitions, unexplained noises, cigar smoke, moving machinery and spirits traditionally identified as former owners.
The Burrville Cider Mill was built in 1801 and remains an operating seasonal cider mill near Watertown. Its owners openly acknowledge the property's reputation for numerous hauntings. Captain John Burr, an early owner around whom colorful local stories developed, is one of the figures traditionally associated with the activity. Other accounts describe the presence of later mill owner Homer Rebb. Reported phenomena include apparitions, unexplained crashes or sounds of heavy objects, bouncing-ball noises, cigar smoke without an obvious source, malfunctioning equipment and old machinery apparently moving. The identities attached to individual spirits remain local tradition, but the paranormal reputation is acknowledged by the business itself.
