THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Camp Pendleton's Area 41 (Las Flores) in Oceanside, California, is infamous among Marines for a broken-hearted spirit who reportedly shot himself in a second-story barracks room. On-duty personnel and recruits frequently report hearing the distinct, disembodied sound of a man softly humming the Jeopardy! game show theme song around the empty grounds. The area is heavily disrupted by poltergeist activity, including locked storage units slamming shut, furniture scraping across empty floors on its own, and cell phones vanishing only to mysteriously reappear on bunks.

Area 41, they say, is haunted by a Marine who shot himself in distress when his fiancee left him. You may see him move objects around, or hear him hum the thinking tune from the TV show “Jeopardy.”
