THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic 1860s sea captain's home on First Street in Benicia, California—originally operated as a popular gold rush-era bordello, later known as Captain Blythers Restaurant, and currently operating as Sailor Jack's—is heavily haunted by its colorful, maritime past. The property is plagued by active poltergeist activity, with employees and patrons routinely witnessing paintings jumping off the walls and objects moving entirely of their own free will. The building's most famous resident entity is "Carl," a mischievous, ghostly regular known for lingering in the dining rooms due to his perpetual supernatural fondness for fine cigars and finer ladies.
Sailor Jack’s, formerly Captain Blythers, was a private home that was turned into a restaurant. Witnesses say pictures have “jumped” off the walls and alarms have gone off for no apparent reason.
