Castillo de San Marcos has guarded the city of St. Augustine since the late seventeenth century and is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. Visitors have reported ghostly soldiers, phantom footsteps, mysterious voices, and apparitions within the ancient coquina walls. Centuries of military history have made the fort one of Florida's best-known haunted landmarks.
