THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Beneath Paris lies an enormous network of tunnels holding the remains of millions, including a visitor who vanished underground in 1793.

The Catacombs of Paris contain the skeletal remains of an estimated six million people, transferred underground beginning in the late 18th century as the city's cemeteries became overcrowded. According to the source, Philibert Aspairt disappeared while exploring the catacombs in 1793. His body was discovered near an exit eleven years later. The underground tunnels extend for hundreds of kilometers, although only a small portion is officially open to visitors.
