THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Central Fire Station is rumored to be haunted by former firefighters who remained devoted to the station after death. Witnesses have reported unexplained footsteps, doors opening on their own, and the sounds of equipment moving inside the building. Staff have also described shadow figures appearing in empty bays.
Forrest Howard, Sebring’s fire chief in the 1940s and 1950s, is said to still roam the halls of his favorite fire station. Modern day firefighters swear they see him in the bunk area, and they occasionally smell faint scents of his much-beloved cigars.
