THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Century House in McCloud, California—built in 1903 as Siskiyou County's first hospital before its conversion into a historic inn—is heavily haunted by the residual energies of its medical past. Guests and operators routinely report hearing loud, disembodied footsteps pacing the hallways and staircases, muffled voices chatting in empty rooms, and the distinct clatter of dishes rattling on their own. The inn’s most prominent entity is a solid, dark shadow figure that frequently manifests standing frozen at the end of the upstairs corridor.
Built in 1907, the former county hospital is now a bed and breakfast inn. The current owners have reported the spirit of a man roaming the building, and a female guest felt an unseen, unwelcome guest climb into bed with her. The proprietors consulted a doctor who used to own the place, and were astonished to find that the reports dated back almost half a century, when patients would complain about disembodied footsteps in the hallway and on the staircase.
