THE STORY
Reported Haunting
This historic Kent village is associated with numerous ghost stories, including a drowned child, phantom soldiers and nurses, strange lights, mist and a haunted bridleway.
Charing has accumulated numerous local haunting traditions. One of the best known concerns a young orphan girl who reportedly drowned after being lowered into a well and is now said to appear wet and covered in pond weed near the house and nearby pond. The village hall, once used as a wartime hospital, is associated with apparitions of a nurse and soldier as well as phantom cigarette smoke. Strange lights and mist have been reported in the churchyard, while a nearby bridleway is associated with an oppressive sense of being watched and legends of murdered pilgrims.
