The historic Chaves County Courthouse has been associated with reports of paranormal activity within its halls. Visitors and employees have described unexplained footsteps, mysterious sounds, apparitions, and other unusual occurrences believed to be connected to the building's long history.
The sounds of young children playing are often heard in the basement.
