THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Cherokee Falls Bridge is tied to the Upstate legend of Booger Jim, a ghost said to answer with an eerie moan when his name is called three times near the bridge at night.
The Cherokee Falls Bridge legend is one of the better-known haunted-road stories around Blacksburg and Cherokee Falls. Versions differ on who Booger Jim was and how he died: some say he was hanged from the bridge with jumper cables, while another widely circulated version says he attacked people and was pushed from the bridge into the water. The recurring ritual says that visitors who stop near the bridge and call Booger Jim three times may hear a garbled moan or encounter a shadowy figure. The submitted coordinates were several miles from the published haunted-location marker; this entry uses the map point supplied by HauntTracker for Cherokee Falls Bridge. Drivers should never stop in an unsafe traffic position or trespass while attempting the legend.
