THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Local Jonesborough folklore says an apparition resembling Andrew Jackson sometimes appears around the Christopher Taylor House, approaching the cabin or nearby street before suddenly disappearing.
The Christopher Taylor House is a late-eighteenth-century log residence associated with early Jonesborough history. Andrew Jackson stayed with Christopher Taylor for a period in 1788 while waiting to travel west. The cabin originally stood outside the present downtown area and was relocated to Jonesborough's Main Street Historic District in 1974. Local ghost lore says a male apparition resembling Jackson has been seen near the house, sometimes approaching the doorway or walking nearby before vanishing. The identification of the apparition as Jackson is traditional folklore rather than verified fact.
