THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The former Court Inn, historically known as Lausanne, was associated with a spectral woman known as the Grey Lady. The ghost story was recorded in older South Carolina folklore sources. The inn itself was demolished in 1964, leaving only the historic site.

Lausanne, later known as the Court Inn, was a historic Camden residence and inn near Mill Street. The building became associated with the apparition traditionally called the Grey Lady. The legend was recorded in older South Carolina folklore and travel literature, giving the haunting a considerably longer history than many modern internet ghost stories. The original Court Inn was demolished in 1964, so the haunting is now associated with the former location rather than a surviving building.
