White Cemetery and the surrounding Cuba Road are associated with reports of glowing orbs, spectral figures, unexplained footsteps and phantom vehicles.
White Cemetery is a small historic burial ground along Cuba Road near Barrington and is the center of one of northern Illinois' best-known collections of road and cemetery legends. Visitors have reported glowing orbs above graves, luminous figures, unexplained footsteps and shadowy forms. Cuba Road folklore also includes phantom vehicles, particularly a mysterious black car said to appear and disappear along the roadway. Accounts surrounding the cemetery and nearby road vary considerably and should be treated as local folklore and witness reports rather than established historical fact.
