THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California, is haunted by the lingering spirits of Old Hollywood elites and legendary racing figures who frequented the grandstands after its 1937 opening. Late-night employees and paranormal investigators frequently report residual auditory haunts, including the sound of phantom horse hooves pounding the track, disembodied laughter, and spectral patrons ordering martinis at the empty Turf Club bar. The property is also heavily disrupted by poltergeist activity, featuring sudden moving shadows, unexplainable cold spots, and an overarching presence believed to be the tall ghost of legendary, martini-loving horse trainer Charlie Whittingham.
Most people report seeing a ball of light that travels through doors. Other activity here include shadows (which are also caught on camera), disembodied voices, cold spots, and lights flickering. The fifth floor is said to be the most active.
