Local folklore surrounding this massive sinkhole says the Devil once used it as a millhopper, feeding bodies into its depths. The legend grew from the bones and fossils found at the bottom, which early residents imagined were the remains of those claimed by the Devil.
Some visitors swear they hear screaming and moaning at this location, particularly on a full moon.
