Forty Acre Rock is a massive exposed granite formation in Lancaster County surrounded by centuries of local folklore. Among its best-known features is a depression traditionally called the Devil's Footprint or Devil's Stomping Ground. Legend claims that the Devil once stopped on the rock to rest and left an impression in the stone. Nearby markings have also been interpreted in folklore as the marks of heavy chains. Another natural depression is traditionally known as King Hagler's Punchbowl, named for the historic Catawba leader.
