THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Hidden among the wooded trails of Little Creek Park in South Charleston, the Devil's Tea Table is a striking pedestal-shaped sandstone formation surrounded by old supernatural place-name folklore. The exact origin of the formation's ominous name has been lost, but unusual rock formations like this were traditionally attributed by European settlers to supernatural forces and sometimes to the Devil himself. Broader West Virginia folklore surrounding formations known as "Devil's Tea Tables" tells of the Devil visiting the great stone tables, occasionally concealed by an unnatural mist. While there are no well-documented reports of specific apparitions, witchcraft, or rituals at the Little Creek Park formation, its eerie name and connection to generations of supernatural Appalachian folklore have made it one of the park's most unusual landmarks.
Ghost Atlas has a published record for this location, but a full narrative has not yet been added.
