THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Dover Castle is associated with several ghost stories, most famously that of a headless drummer boy said to wander its tunnels and battlements after being murdered while carrying a message. Visitors have also reported a woman in a crimson dress, a Cavalier-like figure, unexplained shadows, and other apparitions throughout the historic fortress.
CCTV footage recently caught a blurred figure by the castle’s gate. This could possibly be the ghost of a drummer boy who was murdered and decapitated while running an errand; sometimes he is heard drumming. A woman in red and a cavalier have been seen in the old keep, and if you decide to pay visit to the tunnels, you might see the ghosts of World War II soldiers. Screams, conversations, footsteps, banging, and other unexplained noises are picked up. Photos capture mist or even apparitions at times.
