THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Landmark Inn is best known for the legend of the Lilac Lady, along with reports of unexplained telephone calls, apparitions and unusual experiences on the hotel's upper floors.
The Landmark Inn opened in downtown Marquette in 1930 as the Hotel Northland. Employees and guests have shared numerous ghost stories associated with the hotel, particularly the sixth-floor Lilac Room. One recurring account involves telephone calls apparently originating from the room when it is unoccupied, sometimes followed by sightings of a woman dressed in a floral gown. Other guests have reported unexplained sensations and unusual activity in rooms throughout the historic hotel.
