The wreck of HMS Erebus is one of the most historically charged maritime sites in the Canadian Arctic. ccording to Inuit oral histories and testimony from searchers, some residents of nearby Gjoa Haven believe the area around King William Island is haunted or "cursed" by the lingering spirits of the lost crewmen.
