THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The deactivated Old Presque Isle Lighthouse is famous for reports that its lantern mysteriously appears illuminated, along with other apparition and ghost stories surrounding the historic tower.

Built in 1840 on Lake Huron, the Old Presque Isle Lighthouse was replaced by a newer light in the nineteenth century. Despite being deactivated, the old tower became famous for stories that its lantern sometimes appears illuminated even though the operating light was removed. Visitors have also reported apparitions and other unexplained activity. The township museum society openly acknowledges the longstanding haunting rumors while making no claim that they are proven.
