THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Fairfield State Hospital is one of Connecticut's most famous abandoned psychiatric hospitals. Visitors have reported apparitions, disembodied screams, shadow figures, and unexplained footsteps throughout the abandoned buildings. Paranormal investigators frequently document unusual activity connected to the hospital's troubled past.

The hospital, opened in 1931 to house criminally insane patients contains 16 buildings connected by underground tunnels. It is said to be haunted as a result of its tragic history of patient abuse and questionable deaths, and eventually was closed in 1995. It was used as a setting for the film Sleepers and MTV’s Fear. No trespassing is allowed here; folks who don’t follow this rule are likely to be arrested.
