THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Foley House Inn is associated with the legend of a mysterious boarder who disappeared after allegedly attacking the inn's owner, Honoria Foley, who was said to have killed him in self-defense. During renovations decades later, a human skeleton was reportedly discovered hidden inside a wall, and guests have since attributed unexplained noises and apparitions to the spirit sometimes called "Wally."
The Foley House was built in 1896 by a wealthy Irish immigrant’s widow, Honoria Foley. Cut to 1987, nearly a century later, when the owners are doing renovations. What do they find? A skeleton tucked behind a wall. It is thought to have belonged to a rich boarder who vanished in the 1800s; some speculate that he was murdered for his money. Workers at the inn have seen a ghostly man in a top hat walking in the garden at night and have heard strange noises and felt unexplained rushes of air. The staff call the spirit “Wally.” The home is included on many Savannah ghost tours.
