THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Room 538 of San Jose's former LeBaron Hotel became famous in the early 1980s for reports of a woman's voice, unexplained hair pulling, faucets activating by themselves and a woman in white entering the room.
The hotel property at 1350 North First Street operated for many years as the LeBaron Hotel and is now the Holiday Inn San Jose - Silicon Valley. In the early 1980s, Room 538 received widespread attention after hotel employees reported unexplained activity. Accounts include a woman's voice calling a housekeeper by name, hair being tugged when nobody was nearby, faucets apparently turning on or off without explanation and a woman in white reportedly entering an otherwise unoccupied room. Guests later described additional voices, chills and displaced objects. Contemporary reports linked the phenomena with a young woman who had died at the hotel, although details concerning the death vary between retellings.
